The expansive Pune district in rural areas is home to the 3,639 schools and more than 11,000 instructors that make up the Pune Zilla Parishad. The Acharya Vinoba Bhave Sikshak Sahayak programme helps teachers apply 21st Century Education/NEP and enhance student learning outcomes.

NEP 2020 envisages "experiential pedagogy" as one of the essential tools to achieve holistic education.

This is envisaged in various ways – through project-based learning, art integrated learning, activity clubs for arts, science, maths, environment etc.., vocational courses, internships, peer feedback, discussions etc. Teachers can use discussions, reflections, and debriefing sessions to evaluate the success of an experiential learning experience. Supporting and Motivating Government Teachers

Pune Zilla Parishad (PZP) oversees rural Pune, which has over 1,800 villages. PZP manages 3,639 schools and over 11 teachers. Programs envisaged by management – are implemented in schools with the support of Taluka heads (#13) and cluster heads (#309). Each cluster oversees 10-15 schools. Each Taluka has 200-500 schools.

Schools are in remote rural areas. Most schools have 2-3 teachers and some up to 10. Teachers often teach multiple grades and multiple subjects. Apart from teaching - significant time is taken by other tasks – e.g. Department of children with special needs, monthly parent meetings, enrolling out-of-school children, book & uniform distribution, mid-day meal, Teacher Training etc.

Need for the Professional Development of Teachers

Results of the National Achievement Survey (NAS 2021) were recently released. Grade-wise subject-specific Learning Outcomes were identified by the NCERT, and the learning achievement of students of Classes 3, 5, 8 and 10 studying in both Government and Private schools were tested. The subjects involved were Language, Maths, Science, Social Science, EVS and English.

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

After independence, India launched The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), which helped ensure near-universal access to primary schools. However, this also led to the development of numerous small schools. According to 2016–17 data, nearly 28% of India's public primary schools have less than 30 students. There were 1,08,017 single-teacher schools.

The school was buzzing with children - happy and frolicking – naturally. Most children appeared from the lower-income bracket. The school was beautifully painted.
