Teachers Lesson Plans

Standing in front of forty kids at a time feels like doing a musical performance for a restless audience, five times in a row every day. Much of my labor was devoted simply to crowd control – and trying to get them seated quietly.

If students are sitting quietly and become bored, anxious, they are anything but engaged and learn less - It is a known fact. Neuroscience studies of brain chemical transmitters reveal that students' comfort level can influence information transmission and storage in the brain.

What does "learning is fun" then mean? Is the responsibility of teacher to entertain the students? Should students be awed by a magical discovery, a mesmerizing story, an animated chat show, an arduous but exhilarating journey? What is the role of a teacher? Is the teacher a Performer?

Teaching requires many skills like - like public speaking, storytelling, team management. Imagine a teacher has to do public speaking for 5-6 periods in a day for most part of the year! How many of us are ready for this? Many of these skills we have not learnt formally – but are important for success.

What is a good lesson plan?

Effective lesson planning requires the teacher to determine three essential components: the objective, the body, and a reflection. To start, come up with an active objective. Instead of, "Today we'll cover the causes of the Civil War," try reframing it so that the lesson seems a little more engaging.

What is the format of a lesson plan?

A learning objective is a statement that provides a detailed description of what students will be able to do upon completing a course. The statement should be simple and to the point. It is the teacher's role to help students understand how to use the information they will learn during the lesson in a practical way.

What is the most important part of lesson plan?

The heart of the objective is the task that the student is expected to perform. It is probably one of the most important parts of the lesson plan because it is student centered and outcomes based. Objectives can range from easy to hard tasks depending on student abilities.
